OX Left Hand Rear Brake Review

OX KTM Brake Left hand Rear Brake
Having a dirt bike with a left hand rear brake or LHRB like the OX Brake is as big of a game changer as a Rekluse auto clutch. The two together will turn your dirt bike into what feels like a mountain bike with a motor. At this moment I have 2 rides on the OX Brake, but I already know it's one of top mods to the XCW-F 6 Day Project. With that being said look for future updates to this article and if you have any questions feel free to comment below, or contact us.

Installation

The OX Brake is simple in design, works great, and is easy to install. This cable driven system requires basic tools and doesn't require you to open the hydraulics of your KTM dirt bike. You simply add a lever to your clutch side controls (See Image) route the cable down the back bone of your bike and attach cable to the OX Brake that mounts to the rear of your OEM foot brake.

Operation

Once your dirt bikes braking system adjusted to OEM specifications operation of the OX Brake is as simple as operating your front brake. We found controlling the rear brake with your hand is a bit awkward at first, but once you get it down its a game changer. In tight single track using your hand vs your foot gives you more control, and you can even lock up the rear wheel if needed. The best part is for those OH Sh** moments and your brain tells your foot to push the brake you still have the ability to use your foot brake "Not that it will stop you any faster."

Overall

If you're looking for better braking control in the stand up or sitting position, then a LHRB is for you. We went with the OX-Brake due to its simple design and easy installation. Turning your dirt bike into what feels like a mountain bike with a motor makes tight single track riding easier. It also helps out when you to have your right foot free to stick out in a turn or on those nasty downhills where you're on the back of bike and pushing the rear brake is a bit awkward. To sum it up you don't have to be a pro rider, you can be slow and steady like me and see the benefits of having a LHRB. Below are some Q&A to help answer any questions you might have about a LHRB set up and OX Brake.

OX Brake Instillation

Q. How hard was it to install the OX Brake system?
A. The installation required very few tools and mechanical ability. The instructions were well written, easy to follow and takes under an hour.
Q. Do I have to open or bleed the hydraulics on my KTM dirt bike?
A. No this LHRB attaches to the backside of the factory brake pedal as seen in the pictures there for you will not have to mess with bleeding your hydraulics.
Q. How much space on my bars does this LHRB require?
A. You will need 3/4" next to your left grip flange. (When installing a LHRB on a KTM EXC, 2008-2016, replacement of the Multifunction light switch on the left handle bar is required to allow adequate space to install the Left Hand Rear Brake Lever.)
Q. Do you run your LHRB under or over your clutch lever?
A. I run my LHRB under my clutch lever at around a 45-degree downward angle. This is the best position I found for easiest operation in the standing position.

OX Brake Operation

Q. How many rides did it take to get used to the LHRB?
A. It took me 2 rides to get used to using the LHRB, and I still feel myself pushing my foot brake every once in a while.
Q. Can the OX Brake replace my foot brake?
A. No this is an auxiliary braking system that attaches to your dirt bikes foot brake.
Q. Is the LHRB as powerful as your foot brake?
A. With the LHRB pulled in fully you will lock up your rear tire if your foot brake is set to factory settings. You can push your foot brake a little farther, but is won't make your bike stop any faster.
Q. What are the advantages of the LHRB over standard foot brake?
A. 1. Right hand turns.
2. Tight single track in standing position.
3. Steep switchbacks.
4. Large Boot Size
5. Better braking control.
Q. Does Usdualsports recommend an OX-Brake.
A. Yes at half the price of other LHRB systems the OX-Brake is easier to install and simple to operate.
Q. Does the OX Brake work with aftermarket brake levers?
A. It will work with the Torc1 Racing brake lever for a KTM.
